IN tribute to Jamie Lyon, who hung up his boots at the weekend after a glittering career on both sides of the rugby league world, we look at his special two years at Knowsley Road.

ACE centre Jamie Lyon did not get the chance for a swansong appearance, with a hamstring injury ruling him out of Manly’s last game of the campaign at the weekend.

But the classy former Saint, who spent two years wowing the crowds at Knowsley Road in 2005-6, has plenty of other red-letter days to look back on.

Nate Myles has recounted the moment Manly legend Jamie Lyon went down at training as one of the most heartbreaking things he has witnessed in his career.

WHEN Trent Barrett and his Manly players gather to pay tribute to Jamie Lyon, almost to a man they describe him as “unassuming”.

That’s no surprise. A more laid-back country bloke you couldn’t wish to meet, despite his good mate Noel ‘Crusher’ Cleal’s assertions that “there’s more Warriewood than Wee Waa in him these days”.

But as every good leader knows, sometimes there’s no substitute for a good spray and Lyon’s hairdryer treatment, while seldom used, was up there with the best of them.

Jamie Lyon will not only be remembered as one of the best to pull on a Manly jumper, but one of the game’s greatest ever centres, according to coach Trent Barrett.

Lyon’s NRL career is all but over after the Sea Eagles captain confirmed his troublesome hamstring injury has denied him a Brookvale Oval farewell, and he is a long-shot for round 26.
